Our Commitment to nature

The Brewers Cottage is keen to work towards a greener future and preserve the location and its wildlife for forthcoming generations.

The conservation of the Scottish Highlands especially the Glen Affric area is paramount for us, we would like you to join us in doing whatever we can to support and encourage a more nature aware future in the region. We fully support the work of Affric Highlands / Rewilding Europe and look forward to working alongside with the charity in the years to come.

Since we purchased the cottage in 2012 we have worked hard to upgrade the interior without loosing the Victorian character, while outside in the garden we have been committed towards creating a more nature positive environment. Along with a wide range of fruit trees, shrubs and flowering plants we have added numerous bird boxes, bat boxes, and bird and mammal feeding stations.

We appreciate that (like ourselves) many of our guests will have travelled a long way to reach the cottage, there are numerous lovely walks from the cottage and we would encourage leaving the car and explore on foot, alternately cycles can be hired from the campsite in Cannich. A safe storage area for bikes can be found at the rear of the property for those who choose to bring their own.

We have now installed an EV charger and its our hope that guests with electric and/or hybrid vehicles will find this new amenity at the cottage of huge benefit in an area severely lacking in EV infrastructure.

There is a bus service from Tomich into Inverness several times per day.

And lastly guests can take home more than just photos and memories by getting involved.

There are many fantastic organisations and charities working hard to secure the long-term future of the Scottish Highlands and they all appreciate support.

The newly established rewilding charity Affric Highlands is undertaking amazing work, if you are not familiar with the concept of rewilding we encourage you to take a look at their website https://affrichighlands.org/ The Brewers Cottage undertook their free Open University course to learn more about rewilding across Europe, it was a truly enlightening and informative course that left us wanting to know more.

The Brewers Cottage currently supports the work of a number of charities including Affric Highlands, Scottish Wildlife Trust, Scottish Wildcat Action and Trees for Life.

The Brewers Cottage Trees for Life Grove Est. 2021

To show our support (and we hope that you will join us) for the future of this area of outstanding natural beauty we purchased a grove with the charity Trees for Life.

A grove is a collection of trees planted in our name by the charity in selected areas of the Scottish Highlands in and around the Glen Affric National Nature Reserve.

You may wish to plant a tree in memory of your visit, in memory of a loved one, or you may wish to plant as a gesture in off-setting your carbon footprint for the journey you made in reaching Tomich.

‘The Brewers Cottage Grove’ can be added too at any time and by anyone. The cost of the tree which you purchase online is added to our grove at the cost of £6.00, you can add as many trees as you wish – there’s no limit.

We would be delighted if you join us in growing The Brewers Cottage Grove, thus securing the growth and restoration of this unique and special area for those who follow in our footsteps.
