Tomich offers an abundance of local walks of varying distances and difficulty, most of them involve some degree of uphill and downhill.

We have placed lots of local information in the cottage including a file we have put together of some of our favourite walks in and round Tomich, plus some just a short car journey away.

You will also find some local maps in your welcome pack upon arrival.

Local carparks also have maps

** Please Note the car parks in Glen Affric are pay and display and take cash its about £3 for the day the ticket now covers both Dog Falls & River Affric car parks. There is also the option to pay using the RingGo app on your mobile, the app offers buy now pay later parking as there is no mobile signal in the area. Loch Bienn Mheadhoin remains free parking.

On average we stay at the cottage every 6-8 weeks and have done over the last 12 years so although we are still learning we do hope we can help and advise when it comes to answering your questions about suitable local walks.

We always recommend leaving the car and walking from the village, however the gateway into Glen Affric is just 10 minutes away by car once in the glen there are outstanding walks of all levels, variable mountain bike treks, and superb kayaking / paddle boarding opportunities.

Our neighbour Angus has written an excellent small book containing walks from the village entitled 'Tomich Walks & Talks' its available locally in Cannich Spar. However its often useful to do some homework before travelling and for that reason we are more than happy to post a copy out to you. The book costs £5 if purchased locally, or £7.50 including postage if you would like a copy sent at the time of booking.

The woods surrounding the village offer some fabulous walks for dog owners but do be aware of livestock (especially cows with calves! they can be aggressive) and please, please respect the local wildlife which is present in abundance.

For cyclists there is literally mile upon mile of quiet roads and forestry commission tracks & trails, please note a good mobile signal is a rarity so it may be a good idea to make your route known to someone.

Safe bike storage is available undercover at the cottage.

Enjoy your time outdoors in this beautiful largely undiscovered area of the Highlands.
